Walwa - ELA 4927, EL 4431
HIGHLIGHTS
- No previous gold
exploration reported but the geological setting is considered
closely analogous to the section of the Tintina Belt of the
Yukon and Alaska containing the high grade intrusion – related
Pogo gold deposit (9Mt @ 18.8g/t; 5.8M ounces).
- Three separate pulses
of granite magma, dyke swarms of pegmatite, porphyry, aplite and
dolerite and associated volcanic rocks extruded in the period
Mid-Silurian to Early Devonian over a range of 15Ma.
- Walwa tin deposit is a
stacked series of shallow-dipping greisenised
granite-pegmatite-aplite sills and steeply-dipping dykes in
hornfelsed metasediments possibly overlying an albite –
tourmaline altered granite. Minor tantalite and scheelite
(tungsten) recognised in recent exploration. No gold assaying.
- McHargs Prospect
containing the tungsten mineral scheelite and anomalous gold is
part of the Langi Dorn Fault, a 4.5 kilometre mesothermal quartz
vein system hosted by a granite - pegmatite sill emplaced in a
mylonitic shear zone. No previous systematic gold assaying.
- Gold mineralisation to
maximum 22.4g/t was recently reported from Plantation Quarry, a
road ballast quarry.
- Exploration
by QGM to date was restricted to examination of the Walwa
mine area on the granted EL and to road traverses throughout
the EL Application area to check the mapped geology and
confirm reported hydrothermal alteration.
- A
regional drainage geochemical programme has bee completed
and drainages anomalous in gold have been delineated.
Soil and rock chip sampling of defined mineralised
areas has also been completed.
Results are awaited.
